Wellness or Medical?
I don’t know who to see?
Should I go to my GP or should I see a chiropractor?
Trying to decide where to go to receive care can be confusing as there are a lot of options.
The short answer to this question is what do you want? What is your philosophy on health?
The answer to these two questions above will direct you to the right person/profession for you.
A case example:
Patient 1:
Has a pain in the neck that goes down the right arm in to the fingers. This patient has tingling and numbness in three fingers and cannot turn their neck fully on the right side.
Options:
1. See a GP get painkillers and muscle relaxants and get referred for an MRI, wait to be seen by a surgeon/anesthetist and wait for an injection to numb the area (therefore lessen pain). This doesn’t fix the problem but makes the pain/life more bearable.
2. See a chiropractor get adjusted, make some lifestyle changes which maybe causing the problem and slowly heal (chiropractors can also refer privately for X-RAY and MRI if deemed necessary).
3. See both, if the pain is unbearable taking medication/injections maybe the only way to function ie sleep/work/look after children etc, but also you may want to sort the cause therefore see a chiropractor sort the tight muscle or alignment of the spine.
Care and medical choice is your right and choosing the best care for you and your circumstances is the right answer. All the options above are right depending on the persons health philosophy and what that individual wants.
My professional opinion is to sort the cause of the problem and to do this naturally.
Sometimes having medication/injections to numb the area can cause further damage as potentially you continue doing things that your body is trying to communicate to you not to do by signaling pain. With that system numbed you may continue to further rupture/degenerate or further compromise the initial issue thus making it even worse than had it of been dealt with in the first place.
All of these factors above come down to the philosophy of what is more important to you prolonging life or living with vitality. Again both are right depending on your circumstances. What I have come to realise through years of experiences and meeting people is that a lot of people didn’t know there was another option other than medicine for their problem.
